Best AI video editing software
Descript, HeyGen, LTX and SceneMixer each earn two of the three points. Fifteen more tools earn one. The count rewards stating the detail and does not judge any tool's own editing features. As of 2026-09-25. The rule below was written before the places were computed, and no maker pays to be listed.
1Cutting what a generator makes
Plenty of AI video tools make footage and leave the cutting to a separate editor. For that route a tool's pages need to say three things: how the finished file is downloaded, how captions come out and which route leads into editing software. Each detail a tool's own pages state is a point.
- Says how the finished file is downloaded
- Says how captions are handled
- Names a route into editing: an XML export, EXR frames or its own timeline editor
2What the third point asks for
The editing route is the rarest point. A page earns it by naming one of three routes: an XML export for an editing program, EXR frames for compositing, or the tool's own timeline editor. A page that offers a plain video download earns the first point, not this one.
3The handoff table
Inclusion rule. Makers among the 28 in the register whose pages state at least one of the points listed above; the nine with none are left out. Order. Descending by points; ties share a rank and break alphabetically.
4The pages behind the first places
- Page headerSubtitles exported as a separate SRT or VTT file
- Page headerTimeline export into Premiere Pro, Final Cut, Pro Tools and other editors
- CaptionsVideo and caption files returned as presigned download URLs
- CaptionsCaptions generated as SRT and VTT files for translated videos
- RetentionOutput URLs that expire, to be downloaded or re-hosted once a job completes
- RequirementsEditing through an XML export, as the rules of its own film competition put it
- GuideA full-quality download and a share link; the browser plays a lighter copy
- CaptionsCaptions deliberately left off the video, to be added at the platform
| If this point matters most | Makers whose pages state it |
|---|---|
| Says how captions are handled | Descript, HeyGen, SceneMixer, Kapwing |
| Names a route into editing: an XML export, EXR frames or its own timeline editor | Descript, LTX, invideo, Luma |
| Says how the finished file is downloaded | HeyGen, LTX, SceneMixer, D-ID, fal, Google Veo, Higgsfield, Kling AI, MiniMax, OpenAI Sora, PixVerse, Replicate, Runway, Synthesia, Wan (Alibaba Cloud) |
Inclusion rule. Each row is one point from the list above, with every maker whose own pages state it, in the order of the ranking.
5Why nobody reaches three
No tool in the register states all three, so the table cannot name a winner outright; first place is a tie between tools that each state two, in more than one combination. Only four of the 28 tools name a route into editing software.
Nine of the 28 tools read answer none of the three on their pages and are not listed.

The three points are the toolkit's download, captions and hand-off columns. A shorter table on the first two alone is the downloads and captions ranking, and both open from the handoff rankings.
